Why it matters
Servers treat bots differently
CDNs, firewalls and bot rules can answer crawlers with a different status, a challenge page or a stripped-down response.
Cloaking is against Google’s rules
Showing Googlebot different content from users is cloaking under Google’s spam policies, even when a plugin or edge rule does it by accident.
A thin bot response hides content
If Googlebot gets far less HTML than a browser, key content probably depends on JavaScript or on a check the bot fails.
What it checks
Title
The <title> each request receives, flagged if they differ.
Meta description
The description tag from each response.
Robots meta
Any robots meta tag, so a bot-only noindex stands out.
Bot status code
The HTTP status returned to the Googlebot user-agent.
HTML size
How much HTML Googlebot received, with a warning when it’s less than half of what the browser got.
